Enriching Classroom Play through Play Materials This module helped me understand the importance of play materials in supporting children's learning and development. Before studying this topic, I thought play materials were mainly used to keep children engaged and entertained. However, I learned that they play a significant role in developing children's cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and creative skills. One of the most interesting parts of the lesson was learning about the theories of Piaget, Vygotsky, and Montessori. Their ideas showed how children learn through exploration, interaction, and hands-on experiences with meaningful materials. Theories of Play This week's lesson on the theories of play helped me understand that play is much more than entertainment for children. Different theorists have explained play from various perspectives, showing how it contributes to children's physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development. One of my key takeaways was that no single theory can fully explain why children play. Classical theories highlighted how play helps children release energy, relax, practice survival skills, and express emotions. Modern theories emphasized how children learn through interaction, observation, and active engagement, while post-modern theories showed the importance of culture, environment, and social context in shaping children's play experiences.
